Build Academic Language for Success in School and Beyond
English 3D® is an explicit and interactive English Language Development curriculum designed by Dr. Kate Kinsella. English 3D enables multilingual learners in grades K–12 to rapidly acquire the language skills necessary for academic success.
Asset-Based Teaching and Learning
The linguistic, cultural, and background knowledge multilingual learners bring to their classrooms are at the heart of English 3D. These assets are elevated through relevant topics and texts, translanguaging, contrastive analysis, and home language connections.
A Pathway to Proficiency
Lessons and assessments align with the content students will encounter on their state English Language Proficiency assessment, ensuring they are always advancing toward reclassification.
Course Options for Every
Proficiency and Grade Level
Newcomer
For multilingual learners in grades 4–12 who are newcomers or in late beginning proficiency levels, English 3D's Language Launch courses build on their strengths for rapid acquisition of social and academic language.
Language Launch Volume 1 and Volume 2:
- Provide explicit instruction in the four domains: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Focus on critical language functions, features, and academic vocabulary.
- Use multimodal activities focused on topics that build the language students need to navigate school, their communities, and content area topics.
Grades K–3
English 3D for Grades K-3 provides research-based ELD instruction for our youngest multilingual learners. The curriculum:
- is flexible and can be implemented as a push-in or pull-out model, or as a whole class rotation in a core ELA class.
- provides clear, straightforward materials that can be easily implemented by new and experienced teachers.
- includes differentiated support for earlier proficiency levels.
Grades 4–12
Students at later proficiency levels benefit from English 3D's Courses A, B, and C. These courses:
- focus on engaging contemporary issues.
- create a platform for daily spoken and written responses.
- advance students' understanding of English vocabulary, sentence structure, and grammar.
- engage students in close reading, academic interactions, presentation, and formal writing.
- prepare students for success on ELP assessments and in content-area classes.

STUDENT EXPERIENCE
Relevant and Rigorous Content
Multilingual learners will see themselves reflected in authentic texts that reach grade level and beyond. Teaching supports maintain high expectations while ensuring students have appropriate scaffolding to tackle complex material.
Purposeful Language Development
Language functions and features are woven throughout English 3D lessons. Students actively use increasingly sophisticated language for authentic purposes, such as restating, elaborating, agreeing, and disagreeing.
Meaningful Daily Interaction
Students “flex their language muscles” during daily peer and group interactions. Thoughtfully structured collaboration maximizes students’ time on task, ensures accurate responses, and requires attentive listening.
