Leaving the House With Little Ones, the Drama-Free Way

When it comes to weekly errands, it can be difficult to motivate yourself to get up and out of the house, let alone persuade your kids to come along with you. Pulling your children away from their games and activities for a trip to the grocery store or bank can lead to temper tantrums and frustration — not the ideal start to an afternoon of errands together.

Recently I shared some tips with Huffington Post contributor Jamie Davis Smith about how to encourage reluctant kids to come along for the ride. Giving them a hug in the midst of a tantrum or withholding electronics until everyone is buckled up may just do the trick to get both you and your children out the door faster.  I call it launch and reentry.  Hopefully these ideas will help for smoother transitions – something everyone appreciates!
