Help your child strengthen their ability to use operations with whole numbers, particularly involving multiplication and division, and sharpen their measurement skills, through the use of fractions.
Activity: In the Chef's Kitchen
Cooking is a real-world activity in which operations with whole numbers are used. This project connects using a recipe with division.
Chefs use science to understand how the ingredients in a recipe interact and change. Chefs also use math, specifically multiplication and division, to scale recipes up and down and to calculate the cost of one serving. This cost is used in turn to make decisions about menu pricing in restaurants.
