It’s no secret that, here at HMH, we are firm believers in the crucial role of curiosity in lifelong learning. Exemplified by our beloved friend Curious George, the concept reminds us that education is never static – there are always new ways to explore, get creative and have fun while learning.
This weekend, we encourage fellow adventurous learners of all ages to join us in celebrating Curiosity Day (Saturday, September 20). Family-friendly activities will take place in libraries and bookstores across the country, so visit curiousgeorge.com to take a look at what is happening in your local community or download an activity kit.
If you are in the Boston area, visit the Cambridge Public Library on Saturday from 11am – 1:30pm to meet Curious George and the Man with the Yellow Hat and participate in a host of activities designed to spark creativity.
In addition, here are a few cost-effective ways to get curious this weekend with your family:
- Engage in the Community: visit a local zoo, museum or playground.
- Exercise your Imagination: make up words and write definitions for them; create and draw a fictitious species of animal; write your own family’s history or dream up an adventure story.
- Create Something: build a huge city with blocks or other items sourced from your house; plant a garden in the yard; design a new cookie recipe and whip up a batch to try.
