Early Outcomes Study: HMH Performance Suite

At a glance

A study of HMH Performance Suite® used school-level state assessment data to compare same-cohort changes in proficiency rates between a middle school using Performance Suite and a similar middle school within the same district not using Performance Suite. The two schools matched on demographic characteristics and pre-intervention state test scores. Aggregate cohort change analyses examined changes from spring 2024 to spring 2025 for the 2024–2025 Grades 7 and 8 cohorts combined. Findings revealed that the percentage of students scoring at or above proficiency on the state English language arts assessment increased more in the school implementing Performance Suite than in a comparable school not using the program. This trend was observed not only for the combined Grade 7–8 cohorts as a whole, but for Grade 7 and Grade 8 cohorts separately, female and male subgroups, students with disabilities, students with economic disadvantage, Hispanic students, and White students. The study also provides a qualitative summary of teachers’ experiences using  Performance Suite and embedded tools and their perceptions of that experience.
